Psst! Don’t worry, we know how annoying it is to need loads of different subscriptions to watch Christmas movies. That’s why we’ve only chosen movies from the three biggest streaming platforms: Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.

There are bound to be at least a few Christmas classics on here that you can watch. Let’s get into it with the 10 best Christmas movies to stream in the UK for 2023…

Our 10 best Christmas films to get into the holiday season

1. Home Alone

Home Alone

Home Alone is an absolute must-watch for the Christmas season. Ever since its release in 1990, it’s been an iconic Christmas movie.

Kevin McAllister is fed-up with his family, and when they accidentally leave him behind on their Christmas trip, he couldn’t be more pleased. Watch him revel in his newfound freedom and picture what your eight-year-old self would have gotten up to!

However, his fun is cut short when he must protect his family’s home from burglars, using some unconventional methods…

Where to watch: Disney+

2. Love Actually

Love Actually
Love Actually is often called the best festive movie ever and for good reason. It has an all-star ensemble cast, featuring performances from Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Kiera Knightly, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Alan Rickman, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy, and Rowan Atkinson – to name a few!

Love Actually tells ten separate stories, many of which interlink as the film goes on. It begins five weeks before Christmas and counts down each week.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
If you’re looking for a festive film to please the whole family, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an excellent choice.

Played hilariously by Jim Carey, the Grinch hates Whoville and wants to ruin Christmas for everyone.

However, little Cindy Lou, played by Taylor Momsen, is determined to turn him around and get him into the festive spirit.

It’s the perfect movie to get you into the festive season. A funny, heartwarming holiday tale at Christmas time.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime or Netflix

4. The Holiday

The Holiday
The Holiday is the perfect Christmas rom-com to get you into the spirit and give you that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Angelina Jolie plays a lonely film producer from LA, while Kate Winslet is an office girl from England who is desperate to escape her awful ex.

The pair make a deal to swap their homes for the holidays; a series of events leads both women to love.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime

5. The Muppet Christmas Carol

The Muppets Christmas Carol
There are many renditions of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’, but The Muppet’s version has to be the best; well, we think so at least!

Watch the classic tale and see the grumpy, selfish, rich, old Ebenezer Scrooge travel through time to meet the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.

Will he redeem himself before it’s too late?

With the cast played by all our favourite Muppet characters and a catchy soundtrack, this is one Christmas movie not to be missed!

Where to watch: Disney+

6. Nativity!

Nativity!
Want a Christmas film that’s cute, funny, and heartwarming? Nativity could be the one to watch.

A somewhat grumpy school teacher called Paul, played by Martin Freeman is tasked with producing the school’s annual Nativity show.

In an attempt to look more accomplished, Paul tells a teacher from the rival school that a Hollywood producer will be in attendance at his Nativity.

His lie is leaked to the media by his unwitting teaching assistant, played by Ashley Jensen. It grows and gets out of hand, but the show must go on!

The film is partly improvised, so there are some really funny genuine moments of kids just being kids, and you get to watch their great masterpiece unfold at the end. It’s a great film for adults and kids to enjoy together.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime or Netflix

7. It’s a Wonderful Life

It's a Wonderful Life
It’s a Wonderful Life is the definition of a Christmas classic.

A businessman, George Bailey, seems to be down on his luck, and life seems to send him one trial after another. On Christmas Eve, he contemplates ending his life, but he’s visited by an angel, who shows him what life would have been like without him.

The story has a truly heartwarming ending and will remind you of everything in your life you have to be thankful for!

Where to watch: Amazon Prime

8. Klaus

Klaus
Klaus is the newest Christmas film on this list and is actually a Netflix Original Christmas movie. But, it is such a nice story that we couldn’t resist putting it on our list of Christmas films.

A selfish postman, Jesper, is forced by his father to travel to the faraway land of Smeerensburg. There, he meets Klaus, a reclusive toymaker, and the pair form an unlikely friendship.

The animation of this film is beautiful, and it has a touching story as well. Indeed, one of the Christmas films to watch if you haven’t already!

Where to watch: Netflix

9. Deck the Halls

Deck the Halls

Deck the Halls is a cheesy comedy festive movie all about forgiveness. Steve is known as ‘the Christmas guy’, but when his neighbour Buddy moves in everything starts to go wrong for Steve and it all seems to be Buddy’s fault.

At the same time, Buddy is building an increasingly large Christmas light display on his home, in an attempt for it to be seen from space, using satellite imagery. In the end, the pair enter a big rivalry and go head-to-head, which ends up driving both their families away. Will they settle their differences, or ruin Christmas for everyone?

Where to watch: Amazon Prime or Netflix

10. The Santa Clause

The Santa Clause
Can you imagine waking up one day and suddenly becoming Santa Claus? Well, that’s what happens when toy salesman Scott Calvin, played by Tim Allen, accidentally knocks Santa off his roof!

This one’s funny, although a bit cheesy, and is one of the best festive movies to watch with the kids.

Where to watch: Disney+

Other modern Christmas movies to check out

Here are a few newer Christmas films you can enjoy over a cup of hot chocolate on Christmas eve, or earlier in the festive season.
