About Airband
Airband is a UK-based broadband provider focused on connecting rural and underserved communities with fast, reliable internet. We believe that where you live shouldn’t determine the quality of your connectivity, and we are committed to closing the digital divide by bringing high-speed broadband to areas that have historically been overlooked.
What we do
We design, build and operate our own independent network, delivering full fibre broadband directly to homes and businesses. Our service provides ultrafast speeds, low latency and a dependable connection that supports modern digital life, from home working and streaming to running a business online.
In areas where full fibre deployment is not yet practical, we also utilise fixed wireless technology to extend coverage, ensuring more communities can benefit from improved connectivity while our fibre network continues to expand.
The majority of our network is built using commercial finance. In some regions, we work closely with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and Building Digital UK (BDUK) to build in rural areas with subsidy from the BDUK programme.
Our network
Airband’s network spans across rural and semi-rural parts of the UK, with a strong presence in counties including Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Devon and Somerset, among others. We have built our infrastructure specifically to serve hard-to-reach locations, combining fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) with targeted wireless solutions where appropriate.
Our network continues to grow rapidly, connecting tens of thousands of premises and expanding into new regions as part of our long-term investment strategy.
Our technology
At the core of our service is full fibre (FTTP) technology, which delivers broadband directly to the property using fibre optic cables. This provides significantly faster and more reliable performance than traditional copper-based networks.
Alongside fibre, our fixed wireless access (FWA) solutions allow us to deliver high-speed connectivity to properties where fibre rollout may take longer, ensuring no community is left behind.
Our story
Airband was founded in 2009 with a clear mission: to bring better broadband to rural Britain. Since then, we have grown from a small regional provider into a scaled network operator, backed by significant investment and focused on long-term, sustainable growth.
- 2009 – Airband is founded, initially delivering wireless broadband to rural communities
- 2015–2018 – Expansion of fixed wireless network across multiple regions
- 2019 onwards – Transition to large-scale full fibre rollout begins
- Recent years – Significant investment accelerates network build and customer growth, positioning Airband as a leading rural fibre provider in the UK
