Ah, the 90s! There are so many great movies from the decade of VHS tapes and video rentals, it can be hard to know where to start.

From Warner Bros, to Tristar pictures, Columbia Pictures, Buena Vista Pictures, and many more, there were some really great productions that came out in the 90s.

Whether you’re after a Universal Pictures classic or an animated movie to watch with the kids, we’ve gathered some of the best 90s movies for you in our guide.

Let’s jump straight into the greatest 90s movies ever.

Your list for family movie night

1. The Karate Kid

The Karate Kid
The Karate Kid was actually released in 1984, which means it’s not really a 90s movie. But it’s one of our firm favourites, and we just couldn’t resist including it in our list!

In this the coming-of-age story, a boy called Daniel is being tormented by bullies. After a series of incidents, a martial arts professional fends off the gang from attacking Daniel and takes it on himself to teach the kid karate.

This is a great film all about friendship, so if you want an inspiring film that’s the best of the 90s (or 80s in this case!), you’ll love watching this.

Bad Boys

Bad Boys
Bad Boys, released in 1995 is the epitome of comedy movies from 90s. You follow the life of two detectives, played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. One’s a family man, and the other is living the bachelor life. Things start to go awry when they must swap identities as part of an investigation…

This is one of the funniest 90s movies to watch with the family, we think!

3. The Addams Family

The Addams Family
Family life can be funny, and a bit weird at times. If you agree, you might like The Addams family. It’s definitely one of the 90s movies to watch this weekend.

It was released in 1991, and it’s a weird one for sure, starring Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia.

4. The Little Rascals

The Little Rascals
If you’re looking for a feel-good film filled with cute moments that will make you go “aww”, this one’s for you.

A group of young boys become fast friends and create their own little gang. The phrase “no girls allowed” quickly becoming their slogan.

But then love gets involved, in the form of a fellow school girl! You’ll love watching this and having a good ol’ laugh. It’s definitely one of the best 90s movies in this list.

5. The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden is set in 1947, and follows the life of an orphan who is sent to live with her widowed uncle and his son.

They live in Yorkshire in quite a grand house! The orphan becomes aware of a hidden garden, and begins exploring.

6. Toy Story

Toy Story

Let’s take a trip down memory lane back to 1995, where we met Woody and Buzz Lightyear, played by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Fall back in love with the story of young boy Andy when he, his family and his toys move house.

7. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus

Who remembers this classic starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy? Everyone loves the story of Winifred, Sarah and Mary.

It first came out in 1993, and it’s one of those kids’ movies by Walt Disney Pictures that’s just impossible to forget.

A great classic of three hilarious witches to watch with both older and younger kids. An easy watch for the whole family.

8. The Sandlot

The Sandlot
Next on our list of movies to watch with the kids is The Sandlot. We watch the incredible journey that a group of young boys embark on when they spend their summer playing baseball as friends. Watch them try to escape from Beast, the local dog!

Fun fact! There is an autographed baseball which is signed by Babe Ruth, and that brings on lots of fun and laughs.

9. The Mighty Ducks

The Mighty Ducks
This 1992 comedy drama stars Emilio Estevez. You might recognise him from the Breakfast Club if you’ve seen that! If you’re looking for a good film to get watching with your friend, kids or parents, we think it’s one of the best 90s movies.

It’s an inspiring story. Gordon, played by Estevez, is tasked with the job of teaching kids of a school age to win their hockey game. He’s never lost, and they’ve never won.
