Following a successful upgrade of its network in Kempley, Gloucestershire, last week, Airband has announced it will release data caps on all home broadband plans for three months in response to coronavirus.

Most Airband customers are already on unlimited packages but the move will help around 1000 customers across some of Airband’s older wireless networks in parts of the West Midlands, Devon and Shropshire.

Redmond Peel, founder and director of Airband, said he hoped the move would provide some relief for customers.

“We know it’s going to be a challenging few months with people stuck at home, and we hope this will help our customers access all the resources they need, without worrying about going over their limit.

“Most of our newer customers already have unlimited packages but some historical networks have capped packages and we want to help support them at this time.

“With people working from home, videoconferencing while kids are playing games, and with countless movies being streamed – that’s a lot of data! There’s also an emerging wave of online support for home schooling and home working and we want our customers to be able to access everything that helps them get through this difficult period.

“Going forwards, I think this global crisis has made us acutely aware that good connectivity in rural and isolated areas is more important than ever – and we are even more committed to transforming connectivity for people and communities in rural and hard-to-reach areas.”

As part of its commitment to community, Airband operates a community hub programme – providing a free community broadband service within its network areas. It continues to provide these connections free of charge.
