2021 was a great year for games, but with the new year comes an exciting slate of new game releases.
We’ve compiled a list of the most anticipated games set to release in the UK in 2022.
Upcoming video game releases for 2022
Elden Ring (releasing 25th February on Xbox 1, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5, and PC)
The newest game from veteran developers From Software, Elden Ring promises more of the standard ‘Souls-like’ brutal difficulty and dodging based mechanics which have enchanted challenge seeking gamers for years.
Elden Ring also adds new features to the genre, such as stealth play-styles, a more open-world map, and new modes of transport.
Horizon: Forbidden West (releasing 18th February on PS4 and PS5)
The first Horizon game, Zero Dawn, was a blockbuster exclusive for the PlayStation.
The sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West still exclusive to Sony consoles, promises to build on the large world and innovative setting that made the first game such a roaring success.
This time around, the game deals more with the present than the past, focusing on the human residents of this brave new world.
If you enjoyed the first game, this looks like a return to form. If you haven’t played the first game by now, you should.
Starfield (releasing 11th November on Xbox Series S/X and PC)
Bethesda have taken a break from rereleasing Skyrim on various ports by announcing a new game, now set in the expanse of space!
Whilst details are currently thin on the ground, Todd Howard has described Starfield as being “like Skyrim in space” in terms of its scope and style, with various factions to join and locations to discover.
Bethesda have an excellent pedigree in producing worlds to explore, and if Starfield can maintain that quality, it looks to be one of the biggest games releasing next year.
God of War: Ragnarök (release date TBA in 2022, on PS4 and PS5)
Santa Monica Studio’s last God of War entry won Game of the Year in 2018, and with good reason too!
The game sports a deep hack and slash combat system which has long been associated with the series but added a surprisingly resonant story.
God of War: Ragnarok continues to follow Kratos and Atreus’ complicated father/son dynamic, but adds new antagonists in the form of Freya and Thor, and new dioramas to play in.
If you like Norse mythology and stories with an epic sweep, this game is for you.
Kerbal Space Program 2 (release date TBA in 2022, on Xbox 1, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5)
All the other games on this list have been produced by large, famous studios. The same is not true of Intercept Games and their marquee title, Kerbal Space Program.
The game revolves around creating a successful space program in a fictional solar system populated by adorable little green aliens.
The sequel adds the highly requested multiplayer, as well as new challenges in colony building and interstellar travel.
