We get it, it can seem like a chore you’d rather not do, but it’s usually really simple to set up internet in a new house. In fact, most internet service provider’s (ISP’s) will easily arrange this for you without any extra charge if you’re staying in contract with them, but there are a few things to think about firstly before you take the next leap.

Can I transfer my broadband service when I move?

Broadband services vary from area to area, so you’ll be able to transfer your services with your provider if your new house is within their network.

If you’re wanting to stick with your current provider, be sure to check that you can still get a connection with them beforehand, especially if you’re still in contract.

If your new house isn’t in their network, they won’t be able to offer you a service so you won’t be able to transfer your broadband services when you move. Don’t worry though, that just means it’s time to look elsewhere.

Moving home and already with Airband as your broadband provider?

Don’t forget to take us with you! Be sure to check if we cover your area first, and if we do, it shouldn’t be difficult to switch your services! Just get in touch with us and we’ll be delighted to help you make the move.

Not with us yet? Have you checked to see if you’re in range for a superfast service too? Head over to our broadband coverage checker to find out.

Can I switch broadband providers when I move to a new property?

Absolutely. If you’re looking to change broadband providers, you’ll need to contact your provider to let them know the date you wish to cancel your services. If it’s within your contract term, you’ll likely need to pay a cancellation fee. There are ways to avoid this though, take a look at what to do below if you’re stuck in a contract.

If you’ve come to the end of your broadband contract, it’s the perfect time to seek out the best broadband deal available in your area. You may be paying too much for an inferior service, so why not get more for your buck and set your sights on a superfast broadband connection you can trust?

Want to know what service Airband can offer you? All it takes is to pop your postcode into our broadband coverage checker to find out. In coverage? Fantastic! It’s time to get the broadband you deserve…

Can I change providers if I’m stuck in a contract with my current provider?

Yes! Even if you’re tied into a contract with your current broadband supplier, you can still go about switching broadband while in contract. You might get a better deal, although you’ll likely need to pay off the early exit fees so you can leave your contract early.

Don’t worry though – we can help cover the cost of switching providers up to £250, so it’s as cost-free and hassle-free as can be when you switch to Airband. That’s one less worry while you move!

Can I keep my telephone number when I move?

If you’ve got a landline and plan to continue using it when you move, most providers will allow you to keep the number if you’re not moving too far away. It’s always best to check with your current supplier ahead of time to make sure everything is in place for when you move.

Do you have to have a new line? Nope! You don’t need a phone line installed with us to get great broadband by your moving date.

Want an easier way to make and take calls?

You can ditch your telephone line and switch to an internet-based system like Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

VoIP streams all your calls directly through your internet connection, so you no longer have to use the telephone line and pay the hefty monthly charge for your landline.

Not all providers can offer this service, however Airband doesn’t require use of a telephone line to deliver your connection, so you needn’t worry about paying for one. Ultimately, it’s up to you if you use it or lose it, but take it from us, VoIP is a great way to make the most out of your broadband services too.

Will I have to change my broadband plan when moving house?

Again, this depends. Broadband services differ from postcode to postcode and provider to provider, so you might need to change your broadband plan if you move house.

Providers will often ask you to enter into a new contract when you move anyway, even if you’re staying with them. That can be a very good thing though; whether you’re staying put or looking for better broadband elsewhere, changing your broadband plan means you can benefit from finding a better deal and a better service too.

Fibre broadband from Airband

In an ideal world, every new build house would already have FTTP broadband, but unfortunately not all houses come with great connectivity. The service and wifi speeds you’ll receive depends on your new build connection, so you’ll need to check if fibre is available in your area firstly.

With a FTTP connection, the speeds are exceptionally higher than that of FTTC and copper, not to mention its capacity for even higher speeds in the future too. So, take it from us, if you’re looking for the best new build broadband connection and you’re able to get your hands on fibre optic, it’s definitely worth having!

Broadband guide when moving house

What are the factors to consider when choosing a new broadband provider for your new home broadband?

1. Availability

The first factor to consider when choosing a new broadband provider is whether they offer service in the area where you are moving. Check with the provider to ensure that they can deliver the type of service you need to your new location.

2. Speed

Different broadband packages offer different speeds, and the speed you need will depend on how you use the internet. Consider the activities you use the internet for to determine the appropriate speed for your needs.

Find out what broadband speed you need and what good download and upload speeds are.

If you swap broadband when moving and choose Airband, you could get up to 900 Mbps broadband speed on your new broadband connection. That’s on our Full Fibre 900 package.

We also have 3 other options if you’re looking for a fibre broadband deal:

3. Usage limits

Many providers have usage limits that restrict the amount of data you can use each month. If you use the internet heavily or stream video content, you may want to look for a provider that offers an unlimited plan.

At Airband, all of our packages have unlimited usage. So you can surf, stream and game until your heart’s content.

4. Customer support

Consider the quality of customer support provided by the provider. Look for providers that offer free technical support and have an efficient customer resolution process.

5. Cost

Broadband costs can vary widely depending on the provider and package you choose. Be sure to compare pricing across different providers to find a package that fits your budget.

6. Contract length and early termination fees

Some providers require a long term contract, and may charge a fee for early termination. Consider the length of the contract and any penalties for breaking the contract when choosing a new broadband provider.

7. Bundles and specials

Some providers offer bundled packages with other services, such as TV or phone. Check for any special deals or discounts that could help you save money on your broadband package.

If you’re moving broadband and want to check out some deals, we have a dedicated page with all of our Airband broadband promo codes.

What are the steps involved in transferring broadband service to a new home address?

Switching broadband when moving house typically involves several steps.

1. Contact your current broadband provider

Does your current provider operate at your new address? If they do, provide them with your new address and schedule a transfer of service for your move-in date. If they do not service your new address, you will need to research other providers that do and choose a new broadband service to switch to.

At Airband, we offer wireless and fibre broadband for rural areas in the UK. Find your town from this list (it’s not exhaustive!) and we’ll get you switching broadband in no time, if we offer broadband coverage near you.

You can use our broadband coverage checker and find out in seconds if we can sort out an engineer visit to get broadband to your new address and moving date.

2. Decide if you want to keep your email

Consider whether you want to keep your email address associated with your old account. If so, you may need to contact your current provider to have your email address transferred to your new account. You should be able to contact customer services and chat to your internet provider now to find out.

Similarly, if you have a landline phone number associated with your broadband account, you will need to decide whether to transfer it or get a new number.

Remember! At Airband, you don’t need a landline to get a broadband contract sorted.

3. Schedule an installation appointment

Once you have determined your new provider and service plan, schedule an installation appointment that matches up with your moving date. The last thing you want is to be stuck without internet access at your new property.

The amount of time this takes can vary depending on the availability of technicians and the complexity of the installation. In some cases, you may be able to install the equipment yourself.

But we’d really recommend leaving things to our team to sort on the engineer visit. They’ll get your service connected in next to no time.

What do I do on installation day when I swap broadband suppliers?

Before the installation day arrives, there are a few things you can do to prepare your home for the new equipment. It just makes life easier so you can change broadband as fast as possible.

Follow these steps to get ready for us to install your new home broadband connection:

  • ensure there is a power outlet
  • a clear space for the router and other necessary devices
  • back up any important data or files from your old computer or device

The transfer of your broadband may require you to set up a new network and password.

What additional costs may be involved in moving broadband service to a new home address?

There may be additional costs involved in moving broadband to a new home address. These may include:

Installation fee

If the new home is not already wired for broadband, there may be an installation fee charged by the provider to set up the necessary infrastructure.

At Airband, we don’t charge installation fees (so don’t worry about any unexpected charges).

We offer broadband with no upfront costs.

Equipment costs

If the provider does not supply the equipment, such as a modem or router, there may be additional costs associated with purchasing or renting this equipment.

We also don’t charge for our routers. However, for a small monthly fee, it is possible to add extra routers to extend your Wi-fi range to make sure you don’t have any black spots.

Do you need to keep your email address when you’re moving home broadband to a new address?

It is possible to keep your email address when you move your broadband to a new address, but it depends on your email provider. Some internet service providers (ISPs) offer email addresses as part of their service, in which case you may lose your email address if you switch to a new provider.

However, if you use a separate email service (such as Gmail or Outlook), you can keep your email address regardless of your broadband provider. It is important to check with your email provider before making any changes to ensure you can keep your email address.

When you choose Airband as your new provider, you can keep your current email address as long as it’s one of the free ones like Gmail or Yahoo.
