Fixed wireless access uses radio technology to connect homes and businesses directly to Airband’s network, providing fibre-like performance with a fast and straightforward installation process. Customers benefit from low latency, high reliability and the capacity to support multiple connected devices, home working, streaming, gaming and smart home applications.

The technology underpinning Airband’s gigabit wireless service has already received industry recognition, winning two major telecommunications awards in 2025, including the prestigious World Communication Award for innovation in broadband delivery.

Alan Mitchell, Managing Director at Airband, said: “Reliable, high-speed broadband has become essential for modern life, but many communities still face limited choice when it comes to connectivity. Our new Pontypridd mast introduces an exciting alternative to traditional broadband services, delivering gigabit-capable speeds through innovative wireless technology. This launch represents an important milestone for Airband as our first live gigabit wireless site in Wales. The technology has already been recognised internationally through multiple industry awards, and we are proud to be investing in Welsh communities and bringing a new level of connectivity to homes and businesses across the region.”

Unlike traditional broadband installations that can require significant engineering works, Airband’s fixed wireless access service can typically be installed quickly and efficiently, helping customers get connected sooner.

The launch forms part of Airband’s wider strategy to combine the latest wireless and fibre technologies to reach communities that have historically been underserved or overlooked by traditional broadband providers. As demand for data-intensive applications continues to grow, gigabit-capable wireless broadband offers a future-ready solution that can support the needs of households and businesses for years to come.
