Trick or treating might be off the agenda this year, but there’s no reason to miss out on all the thrills!

Halloween is the perfect time to snuggle up with loved ones and stream movies at home to get in the spooky spirit. Thankfully, we’ve clawed through and found some of the best films to watch as a family this Halloween.

Here you’ll find a small concoction of creepy classics and cartoon horrors, so you’re bound to find the perfect one. After all, no Halloween is complete without a sprinkle of terror and a dollop of thrills with your film choice! Don’t worry though, rated PG or lower, these shouldn’t keep you up at night.

The Addams Family (1991) (2019)

If you think your family might be bonkers, they certainly haven’t got a patch on this eccentric bunch! Entertain yourselves with this far from ordinary American family who relish all things weird and ghastly – it’s no wonder why people find them frightening! Whether you opt for the old school 1991 macabre film or delve into a world of animated family entertainment with the 2019 recreation, you’ll be sure to be in for a thrill with this one.

Beetlejuice (1998)

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! Oh no, don’t say it three times! Get in the Halloween spirit with this timeless classic from Tim Burton and enter the world of house hauntings and ghoulishness. Although this film is rated PG, you might want to give this a miss for young children or if you scare super easily!

Toy Story of Terror (2004)

Our favourite toys are back and up to their own tricks this Halloween! Take a peek into the lives of Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang as they embark on a mission to find the missing Mr Potato head in this Halloween special. With all the gags and giggles you’d usually expect from these group, it’s everything you’d need for a night filled with fun and mystery. (We’ll put this one on for the kids, but we know us adults will be enjoying it just as much too!) Thanks Pixar!

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Sometimes modern isn’t always best – which is more than what we discover in this 1993 film about a tricky trio of 300-year witch sisters. Join the original hallow-queens on a journey of spell casting, revenge and chaos as they try to regain their youth after being accidentally awoken from the 17th century. Rated PG, this one is great for kids to watch under parent supervision.

Scared Shrekless (2010)

No holiday is complete without Shrek! Join the loveable Ogre with donkey and the rest of the gang for some spooktakular storytelling to celebrate all hallows eve. This 26-minute short was aired for television, so it’s perfect for those not wanting a full-length frightening film!
